| What was the most difficult part of concepting for you to learn? Design? Idea generation? Technical skills? asked by Tim |
| First, being a concept artist doesn't necessarily mean that you need to be the best illustrator, you need skills indeed, but mainly to support your ideas, it has more to do with creativity and problem-solving abilities. Technical skills or style are becoming more and more important, but in the end your brain makes all the difference. We think that working efficiently is the most important and difficult part to achieve while being a production artist, because there are so many parameters to take in account, look you need to be a great illustrator/painter, art-director, cinematographer, story-teller, animator, social and creative individual, all-in-one sexy package! Thus, it is essential to understand the difference between concepting for production works and posting on forums, the constraints are very different, so are the responsabilities. |
| What/Who are your main influences ? asked by Fabien |
| Sébastien answers: I think my first influences were my parents. My father, photographer. He owns a photo lab I gave me a my first notions of framing, lighting and composition and give me my first camera.
For my mother she paint since many years, probably she start when she was child and learn me how hold a brush, mix and blend color, work with oil and of course draw and paint.
The nature and animals, because it's the first subject I drew.
The music. Really important. Pobably the most important thing. I start a six to play and I never stop. It's my first passion. Sounds really inspires me.
And of course, many other artists have contributed to build my imagination. The list will be too long but many painters, photographers, comic drawers, film directors, sculptors, writers, architects, misicians etc. |
